Youths Have Important Role In Promoting Peace and Tolerance
Jakarta, 2 Safar 1438/2 November 2016 (MINA) – The Former Prime Minister of Timor Leste Kay Xanana Gusmao said, the social networks mastered by today’s young people could have a more beneficial role in promoting dialogue, tolerance and cooperation leading to peace and the promotion of human dignity.
“Human civilization faces unimaginable challenges. Human being are able to develop sophisticated tecnology to meet every type of economic need and demand, but are not yet able to find actual solutions to the problems that plague humanity,” he said in planary season at the 6th World Peace Forum (WFP), Jakarta, Wednesday.
He believed that this type of forum contributes to raising awareness among both state and non state actors, about the pressing need to address the true causes of violent extremism and to work collectively to counter these radical acts, reduce global injustices and promote human dignity.
“This meeting today, placing the focus on human dignity, reminds us once more that every citizen in the world has one fundamental right: the right to live and, above all, to live in peace,” he added.
Xanana said, however, more than having the right to live in world peace, we all have the duty of nurturing peace. Peace is, undoudtedly, a duty of all human beings and it is our collective responsibility to put into practice, in concrete actionsthis is our responsibility.
