Video Shows Trump’s New National Security Advisor Brands Islam a ‘Malignant Cancer”
Washington, 22 Safar 1438/22 November 2016 (MINA) – Earlier this week, President-elect Trump nominated retired lieutenant general Michael Flynn as his new national security advisor.
However, the former military leader, who served as Mr Trump’s foreign policy and national security advisor during his campaign, has already been hit with controversy.
According to express.co.uk, critics labelled the choice “terrifying” for Muslims in America after footage surfaced this week showing Mr Flynn describing Islam as a “political cancer”.
At a talk in August this year, the former general said: “Islam is a political ideology. It definitely hides behind this notion of it being a religion.
“I have a very, very tough time because I don’t see a lot of people screaming ‘Jesus Christ’ with hatchets or machetes or rifles shooting up clubs or hatcheting, literally axing families on a train, or like they just killed a couple of police officers with a machete.
“It’s unbelievable. We have a problem.”
Mr Flynn added that Islam was “a malignant cancer that has metastasised” during the speech in Dallas hosted by the anti-Islamist group Act for America.
Keeping Americans safe at home and abroad?
Mr Flynn was formerly the director of the Defense Intelligence Agency under Barack Obama.
He was forced out in 2014 – a move which Mr Flynn described as a consequence of “the stand I took on radical Islam”.
In a tweet earlier this year, Mr Flynn justified fear of Muslims as “rational”.
He has also said America was “in a world war against a messianic mass movement of evil people, most of them inspired by a totalitarian ideology of Radical Islam”.
Mr Trump said of the appointment: “I am pleased that Lieutenant General Michael Flynn will be by my side as we work to defeat radical Islamic terrorism, navigate geopolitical challenges and keep Americans safe at home and abroad.
“General Flynn is one of the country’s foremost experts on military and intelligence matters and he will be an invaluable asset to me and my administration.”
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) denounced the appointment as a sign of “deep-seated animosity against Islam and Muslims”.
Ibrahim Hooper, spokesman for CAIR, said: “Mr. Flynn’s past Islamophobic statements, and his association with the nation’s most venomous anti-Muslim hate group, should disqualify him from serving in any public office.” (T/R07/R01)
