EU Calls on Israel to Open Karm Abusalem Crossing with Gaza
Brussels, MINA — The European Union (EU) called on Friday on the Israeli authorities to open Karm Abusalem crossing point, the only commercial crossing on Israel’s border with Gaza.
“The Israeli decision to close the Kerem Shalom [Karm Abusalem] crossing point, except for humanitarian supplies, and to restrict the fishing zone for Palestinians risks further aggravating the already dire economic situation in Gaza,” WAFA quoted the EU as saying in a press statement.
The statement added, “The EU expects Israel to reverse these decisions.”
“The European Union fully joins and supports current efforts by the UN and other partners to reduce tensions, upkeep intra-Palestinian reconciliation and improve the humanitarian and economic situation in Gaza. This must be the focus of all sides now.” (T/RS5/RS1)
