TWENTY PALESTINIAN JOURNALIST BEING HELD IN ISRAELI JAILS

Gaza, 28 Jumaddil Akhir 1436/17 April 2015 (MINA) – Israeli forces arrested a Palestinian journalist on Wednesday after raiding his home in Nablus, bringing the total number of journalists imprisoned by Israel to 20.

Amin Abdul Aziz Abu Wardeh, 48, is the general manager of the Asda news website, the Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms said, Ma’an News Agency quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting.

Abu Wardeh’s said that Israeli forces raided their home at around 2 a.m. and interrogated Amin in a separate room for over an hour before arresting him.

They also seized three laptops and a cellphone.

Abu Wardeh had previously been held in administrative detention for nearly a year after being arrested in November 2011.

According to the Union of Palestinian Radios and Televisions there are now 20 Palestinian journalists being held in Israeli prisons, six of whom were detained in 2015 alone.

The longest serving journalist is reporter for the Sawt al-Haq wa al-Hurriya newspaper, Mahmoud Moussa Issa, who has been imprisoned since 1994.(T/P008/R03)
