Swedish Foreign Minister Proud to Recognize Palestine

Stockholm, MINA – Swedish Foreign Minister, Margot Wallstrom on Monday expressed pride that her country recognize Palestine as an independent country.

“I am proud of the decision of Swedish Government, which recognizes Palestine as an independent country in 2014,” Wallstrom said in an interview in SVT state.

She said that many countries followed in the footsteps of Sweden in recognizing Palestine. Anadolu Agency reported.

“This shows that we recognize Palestine at the right time. We will continue to support Palestine, “she added.

Regarding Israel’s criticism of the policy on Palestine from Swedish Government, Wallstrom said dialogue between Sweden and Israel to resolve problems between the two countries continued.

The relations with Israel reached its lowest point in October 2014, when Sweden became the first EU member in Western Europe to officially recognize a Palestinian state.

In 2015, Wallstrom canceled an official visit to Israel, because no Israeli officials were ready to accept it. (T/Sj/R04)
