Revolt Ends in Maximum Security Prison, with Release of Hostage

Jakarta, MINA — With the surrender of all the terrorist inmates, after almost 36 hours this morning the revolt in the detention center at the headquarters of the National Police Mobile Brigade (Mako Brimob) in Kelapa Dua, Depok regency (West Java) ended. reports Asia News.

The Minister of Political, Legal and Security Affairs of Jakarta ,Wiranto, said that the armed forces of Jakarta broke into the prison and that the prisoners, who had stolen 30 weapons from police personnel and killed five officers, had surrendered.

“About 145 prisoners surrendered without resistance,” the minister said. “Others resisted, but surrendered to the crushing forces of the authorities.”

Wiranto denies that there were negotiations with terrorists: “There was no concession or negotiation. The order was given to surrender to the security forces through a negotiator. If they had not accepted the ultimatum, we would have proceeded with a large-scale military operation “.

Hours before, around midnight, in exchange for a ration of food, the detainees released the hostage captured at the beginning of the revolt, the officer from the anti-terrorist unit of the Iwan Sarjana police

He suffered numerous injuries to his face and body and was immediately transported to the police hospital. Local media reports that his five colleagues were killed. Yesterday, the Islamic State (IS) had claimed responsibility for the action.

There are about 130 detainees of the Mako Brimob detention center and are suspected or convicted of terrorism.

The prison is a maximum security structure. It is assumed that the rebels are linked to Amman Abdurrahman, leader of the terrorist group Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD). He too is condemned for terrorism within the structure.

National Police deputy chief Comm. Gen. Syafruddin said the 155 detainees under scrutiny have been transferred to the maximum-security prison island of Nusakambangan, off the south coast of Java. (T/RS5/RS1)
