OIC to Hold a Meeting to Discuss Islamophobia

Jeddah, 23 Muharram 1438/23 October 2016 (MINA) – The General Secretariat of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, OIC, will hold a meeting for its member states and institutions at the expert level in Jeddah on Monday, to review the information strategy to counter Islamophobia.

According to the Saudi Press Agency, SPA, the meeting will review the information strategy of the organisation and ways to address the phenomenon of Islamophobia in light of the spread of hate discourse in many Western countries.

The meeting aims to come up with clear and practical mechanisms for a counter-Islamophobia media campaign that highlights the true noble image of Islamic and contributes to halting the ongoing deliberate defamatory campaigns waged in different Western fora.

Western media’s ignorant portrayals of Muslims were providing fuel to the campaign of hate and bigotry.

There is also the unfortunate rise of political opportunism by spreading fear and xenophobia. (T/R07/R01)
