MUHAMMADIYAH ENCOURAGES INDONESIA TO ACTIVELY PARTICIPATE ON INTERNATIONAL COMPETITIONS
Makassar, 18 Shawwal 1436/18 August 2015 (MINA) – The second biggest Muslim organization Muhammadiyah encouraged Indonesian people to take part actively in international competition to achieve better progress, said Chairman of Central Board of Muhammadiyah Din Samsuddin.
In his speech during the opening of the 47th national congress of Muhammadiyah at Karebosi stadium, Makassar, South Sulawesi on Monday. Din said the Islamic movement Muhammadiyah has its “ Advanced Islam” vision since it was born in 1912.
The President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo and First Lady Iriana, cabinet ministers Tedjo Purdijatno Yuddy, Chrisnandi, Lukman Hakim Saifuddin and Saleh Hussein attended the Congress.
The Chairman of the people’s Consultative Assembly Zulkifli Hasan and Vice Chairman Hidayat Nur Wahid, Chairman of Regional Representative Council (DPD) Irman Gusman and the Vice Chairman Farouk Muhammad, as well as former House Speaker Agung Laksono also attended the event.
According to Din Syamsuddin, Muhammadiyah cooperated with other elements contribute to advance the state including its participation in the regional economic development through ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).
“The government is a strategic partner of Muhammadiyah,” he said.
Din asserted, Muhammadiyah consistently helps the government to give enlighment to the people through education, health, economic, and social affairs.
Muhammadiyah’s relationship with the government, he said, is proportional and the organization will be in the front-line for the betterment of the nation.
“Muhammadiyah is the movement which support good government policies. Otherwise, it also become an institution that gives criticism if there is any government policies that does not comply with the constitutional mandate ,” he said. (T/R03/NMT)
