Ramallah, MINA — The Ministry of Religious Affairs condemned on Wednesday Israeli police cutting wires for loudspeakers while the call for the evening prayer was being made at Khan al-Ahmar village, east of Jerusalem, WAFA reported.

Minister of Religious Affairs Yousef Ideis described the police act as “a violation of the right of Muslims at Khan al-Ahmar to hear the call for prayer.”

He said cutting the wires to mute the sound of the Muslim call for prayer is evidence of the violation of the occupation authorities of freedom of religion in the occupied territories.

He called on rights organizations to condemn the police behavior.

Activists said police cut off the wires following complaints by Jewish settlers nearby that the calls disturb them.

Israel is in the process of enacting laws barring call for prayers from mosque loudspeakers on ground of disturbance. (T/RS5/RS1)
