Maternal and Child Mortality Rates in Indonesia are Still High
Jakarta, MINA – Indonesia is still faced with challenges to overcome health problems in the early phases of life and important times in human life.
Various problems such as the high maternal and child mortality rates, malnutrition, and efforts to meet the needs of children who have special medical conditions require the attention of all stakeholders.
Danone Specialized Nutrition (SN) Indonesia as a company engaged in the field of nutrition and health of mothers, children and nutrition in important times of life wants to continue to contribute through various initiatives and cooperation with many parties including governments, health experts and other organizations that have the same interests .
“Our mission is to bring health to as many people as possible in the world. At Danone SN Indonesia, we believe that nutrition has an important role in bringing positive changes to the health and quality of human life,” Connie Ang, CEO of Danone SN Indonesia, said in a press statement on Monday (10/14).
Connie stated, their focus in Indonesia was to participate in answering the nutritional challenges faced by mothers and children including faltering growth and stunting and special nutritional needs for special medical conditions.
Danone Specialized Nutrition Indonesia through its business units Nutricia and Sarihusada has carried out initiatives for efforts to meet the nutritional needs of children and mothers through research, product development and education activities.
“Armed with more than 100 years of experience in the field of nutrition, and a solid global network, we are committed to contribute in supporting scientific activities, research and development of innovative nutritional products and collaborating with various parties to encourage the creation of a healthier Indonesian generation,” Connie explained.
Efforts made by SN Indonesia Danone in educational activities carried out through various scientific seminars in the field of maternal and child health, in collaboration with various professional organizations in the field of health and nutrition.
In various scientific activities such as the congress on nutrition, allergies and children’s health, experts from inside and outside the country were presented to share the latest concepts and knowledge about the important role of nutrition in dealing with various cases of maternal and child health.
This activity is carried out to support increasing the capacity of health workforce resources in Indonesia including pediatricians, obstetricians and experts in the field of nutrition. Scientific seminars were held in several cities including Manado and Bali, followed by hundreds of health workers and experts from inside and outside the country.
Danone SN commitment to the Indonesian people to continue to improve their research and innovation capabilities is also evidenced by building an international standard research and innovation facility in Yogyakarta in the middle of this year.
The Danone Nutricia Research facility, the Sarihusada R&I Center, which was opened last July is equipped with the latest science and technology expertise.
The establishment of this research and innovation center is expected to encourage Danone’s efforts in Indonesia to develop nutritional product innovations that are in line with the needs of the community.
The capacity building of the Danone SN research center is carried out by completing four high-tech facilities, namely the Pilot Plant, the Product and Raw Materials Development Laboratory, the Sensory Laboratory and the Packaging Laboratory.
This facility will make it easier for Danone to do the product prototype simulation process independently; ranging from exploring scientific and technological insights, conducting clinical studies for product safety and effectiveness, developing products, conducting packaging studies, and sensory studies to innovation products ready to be produced on an industrial scale.
“We should be proud that the research center in Indonesia is one of the six research centers owned by Danone Nutricia Research in the world and supported by hundreds of researchers from networks owned by Danone Research and Innovation Centers around the world,” Connie added.
He also stated that he wanted to continue to work with various parties to be able to positively contribute to advancing nutrition and health and continue to be a trusted provider of nutritional products based on scientific research in Indonesia. (L/R01/)
