Tel Aviv, MINA – The Israeli government announced plans to review its policy prohibiting journalists from entering the Gaza Strip, local media reported on Sunday, as cited by Anadolu Agency.

According to Haaretz, the government informed Israel’s Supreme Court that it would reassess the ban within a month and submit an update by Nov. 23. The move comes in response to petitions filed against the ongoing restrictions that prevent both local and foreign journalists from accessing the war-torn Palestinian enclave.

Until the policy is reviewed, journalists will continue to be barred from Gaza except within the so-called “yellow line,” a non-physical boundary separating areas currently occupied by Israeli forces from those they have withdrawn from.

Last Thursday, the Foreign Press Association (FPA) expressed disappointment over a Supreme Court ruling that upheld the government’s authority to restrict media access to Gaza. Palestinian and international human rights groups have long accused Israel of attempting to conceal war crimes and atrocities by banning journalists and targeting media workers.

Since October 2023, at least 238 Palestinian journalists have been killed and dozens wounded in Israeli attacks, according to local media organizations. Israel’s ongoing assault on Gaza has killed more than 68,000 people and injured over 170,000 others, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.

The first phase of a ceasefire agreement under US President Donald Trump’s 20-point plan took effect on Oct. 10, including a prisoner exchange and plans for Gaza’s reconstruction under a new administrative framework without Hamas.[]
