ISESCO Condemns Arson Attack on Orebro Mosque in Sweden
Rabat, MINA – The Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) strongly denounced the fire which started early Tuesday, causing major damage to a mosque in the Swedish city of Orebro, about 160 kilometers west of the capital Stockholm.
ISESCO called for severe punishment of the perpetrators of this despicable terrorist act which is being investigated by the police as being an arson attack, IINA News reported.
It also called on Sweden’s authorities to ensure greater protection for mosques and Muslim citizens against the trends of hate and Islamophobia, in compliance with the resolutions of the United Nations and its organs that invite states and peoples to embrace tolerance, reject pervasive contempt for religions and ban desecration of religious sanctities.
As asylum-seekers have flooded into Sweden in recent years, anti-migrant sentiment has grown and there have been increasing xenophobic attacks in the Scandinavian country. (R/R04/RS5)
