Doha, 14 Muharram 1437/27 October 2015 (MINA) –  A key international conference which brought together top media professionals from the Arab world and USA successfully concluded here yesterday.

The event was organised by Qatar University’s Mass Communications Department in which several important papers were presented.

This was the 20th Annual Conference of Arab-US Association for Communication Educators, known by its abbreviation, AUSACE, The Peninsula quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting.

It kicked off on October 24 and ended yesterday. A number of participants and paper-presenters were felicitated at the concluding session of the event yesterday.

The head of Mass Communications Department of QU, Dr Mahmoud Galander, in his closing address, thanked the paper presenters for their sincere effort, and the President of AUSACE, Dr Mohammed El Nawawy.

President El Nawawy honoured six paper presenters, who presented their work in English and Arabic, for their in-depth, scientific and research-based papers.

The conference was opened by Dr Hassan Al Derhem, President of Qatar University.

In his opening address, Dr Al Derhem expressed happiness that Qatar University was hosting such a coveted international media conference.

“I consider it as an outcome of our university’s efforts to promote scientific research,” said the President about the event.

He lauded the university’s Mass Communications Department for acquiring academic accreditation from the Accreditating Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications.

Dr Al Derhem said, that this accreditation for a media department of a university (a reference to Qatar University’s Mass Communications Department) was the first of its kind in the region.

On his part, Dr Galander, in his address at the opening session of the event, outlined the achievements of the Mass Communications Department.

He said graduates of this department are found in almost every media organisation in Qatar, including Al Jazeera network, Qatar Centre for Media Freedom, beinsport TV channel, Qatar News Agency, Qatar TV, Qatar Radio, Al -Rayyan TV and local newspapers Al- Sharq and Al -Watan.

Additionally, graduates of the department are working in the media and public relations departments of various government ministries and agencies.

On the first day of the conference, some of the sessions were devoted to media research and audience research. Some sessions focused on the impact of modern communications on social media and print media.

Yesterday’s sessions were devoted to, among other issues, the impact of newspapers and other media on public and their attitude and the best possible means to enable people to access sources of information through different media platforms. (T/Imt/R03)
