Indonesia’s Senior Economy Minister Optimistic about 5 Pct Growth in Q3

Jakarta, 07 Muharram 1438/08 October 2016 (MINA) – Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for the Economy Darmin Nasution was upbeat about seeing up to 5 percent growth in the third quarter as the government has planned to issue an economy reform package aimed at boosting e-commerce in the country.

“Could reach 5 percent or even a bit above that level,” Xinhua quoted the senior economy minister as saying at a hearing in the parliament on Friday.

Indonesia would heavily rely on economic performances in the third and fourth quarters to meet this year’s growth target initially set at 5.2 percent.

Indonesia posted 4.92 and 5.18 percent growth in the first and second quarters respectively this year.

To prop up the nation’s economy during the remaining quarters this year, the government planned to bolster industry and trade sectors, the minister said.

To facilitate the efforts, the government would issue an economy reform package aimed at simplifying administration process in e-commerce business in the near future, he added.

The senior economy minister said that e-commerce has a huge potential to further boost the nation’s economy.

Indonesia has asked Chinese e-commerce magnate Jack Ma to become an adviser for the government to develop the sector.

Indonesia has set a target to see business in the nation’s e-commerce business reaching 130 billion U.S. dollars by 2020. (T/R07/R01)
