Indonesian FM at UN Forum: Palestine is Indonesia’s Priority
New York, MINA – Indonesia reiterate its support for Palestine in international forums and condemn all forms of Israeli oppression of the rights of Palestinians.
“Seizure or annexation of Palestinian territories is taking place inhumanly. All countries must oppose this, “said Indonesian Foreign Minister (FM), Retno Marsudi at the UN Forum on Palestine, at the UN Headquarters, New York, United States, Thursday.
Holding of UN Forum on Palestine is one of the series of Indonesian FM’s agendas at the UN Security Council on 2 – 4 April 2019.
The forum themed “The threat of de facto annexation” has attracted the attention of various groups and was attended by representatives from UN member states, international NGOs, international organizations and academics.
Meanwhile, the panelists were from former high-ranking officials in Palestine, human rights activists and lawyers, and the UN Special Rapporteur.
In his keynote address, Indonesian FM added that in addition house demolition and expulsion of population, Israel carried out various political, economic and social pressures on Palestine.
In addition, Israeli authorities also seized tax revenues, which constitute a large portion of Palestinian income. Violence of Israeli authorities and settlers is also increasingly widespread, including the closure of the gate of Al-Aqsa Mosque.
For this reason, Indonesian FM reiterated that Palestine is Indonesia’s priority. This year Indonesia has increased assistance for the UN refugee agency (UNRWA) and launched a capacity building program for Palestinian people.
Indonesia will also hold a special meeting on Palestine during the upcoming Presidency at the UN Security Council in May 2019 and calls for the international community to continue the humanitarian assistance that has been supporting the lives of Palestinian people. (T/Sj/P2)
