Indonesian Exporters Should Open New Markets: President Jokowi

Jakarta, 11 Muharram 143/12 October 2016 (MINA) – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) urged Indonesian exporters to open new markets, including in India and African countries, amid sluggish global economic conditions, Antara reported.

“Pay attention to penetrating new markets that we have so far ignored, and paid no attention to, such as India and African countries that have populations of more than 60 million,” President Jokowi said, after opening the Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) 2016 at the Jakarta International Expo (JI-Expo), at Kemayoran, here on Wednesday.

He noted that there are opportunities for Indonesian products to enter African and Indian markets, as well as those in Bangladesh, Iraq and Latin American countries.

He lauded the initiative of the trade and creative economic ministry for helping SMEs in various regions with attractive designs and packaging for their products.

Accompanied by Trade Minister Enggartiasto Lukito, Jokowi officially opened the TEI 2016, which brings together businessmen from 73 countries.

The Head of State also presented Primaduta and Primaniyarta awards to the best 30 Indonesian exporters.

The 31st TEI displays Indonesias prime products aimed for exports.

According to Minister Enggartiasto, the expo has recorded business commitments worth RP2.6 trillion from 14 countries.

As many as 1,100 sellers, including SMEs and 15,562 buyers from 152 countries, are taking part in Indonesia’s largest trade expo, being held from Oct. 12 to 16.  (T/R07/R01)
