Indonesia a Host of International Conference on Islamic World

Palu, MINA – Indonesia will hold the 18th Annual International Conference on Islamic Studies (AICIS) in Palu, the capital city of Central Sulawesi Province, Indonesia and precisely at the State Islamic Institute (IAIN) Palu on September 17-20 2018.

The Minister of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia, Lukman Hakim Saifuddin and the Islamic Studies Specialist Dominik Müller from the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology, Germany will present at the Conference as the keynote speakers.

According to the schedule, AICIS 2018 will be attended by 1,700 experts and practitioners of the Islamic world.

The theme of the AICIS conference this time is “Islam in Southeast Asia and the Global World: Text, Knowledge, and Practice”. The practice of Islam in Southeast Asia will be a major study that is dissected in various disciplines in order to seek input for the progress of Islamic civilization.

The Director of the Islamic Religious College, Director General of Islamic Education of the Ministry of Religion, Arskal Salim, said, this conference is a meeting place for scientists and academics of Islamic studies in order to find solutions for some social problems of the community.

The Southeast Asia is the widest region and inhabited by 25 percent of the world’s Muslim population and become the largest with 1.6 billion people. Thus, Southeast Asia plays an important role in Islamic civilization.

According to Arskal, Islamic countries in Southeast Asia, especially Indonesia have been born new ideas in terms of culture, social, economic, architectural, and patterns of relations between the majority-minorities that are closely related to Islam.

He added, the world still has difficulties in understanding Islam, especially because of the contradiction between Islamic teachings and the behavior of some of its adherents. (TR /Sj/P2)
