IMF and WB Laud Well-Organized Implementation of Annual Meetings

 

Nusa Dua, Bali,MINA — Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Christine Lagarde and World Bank President Jim Yong Kim lauded the smooth and well-organized implementation of IMF-WB Annual Meetings held in Nusa Dua, Bali.

This was revealed by Lagarde and Yong Kim in the 2018 Annual Meetings Closing Press Conference here on Sunday.

The press conference was also attended by Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Panjaitan, Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati and Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo.

Lagarde stated that the government had prepared the annual meetings properly and seriously.

“The hospitality of the Indonesian people will not fade,” Lagarde said.

The smooth and well-organized implementation of IMF-WB Annual Meetings can provide a good story for Indonesia, which is currently struggling to recover areas affected by natural disasters and anticipate the threat of protectionism.

“This memory will continue to be remembered, Thank you for your hard work,” Lagarde stated.

Meanwhile, Yong Kim also praised the implementation of IMF-WB Annual Meetings that ran smoothly.

Yong Kim expressed condolence over Friday`s earthquake and tsunami in Central Sulawesi, which has the loss of many lives.

He stressed that the World Bank had provided assistance to encourage rehabilitation process and accelerate reconstruction in disaster areas.

“As a result, economic activities can recover and continue as usual,” he said.

Regarding this annual meeting, Kim highlighted the importance of efforts to strengthen solidarity and commitment.

“Indonesia provides us with an inspiring vision to renew efforts that are in line with the spirit of multilateralism,” Kim said.

 

None of the complaints

On the same occasion, Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani expressed gratitude to those who have worked hard to make the event a success.

None of the complaints were given by the delegates who attended the whole event since October 8, 2018.

She lauded the IMF and World Bank delegates who provided their support over Friday`s earthquake and tsunami in Central Sulawesi.

The minister emphasized that the world should unite to face the common enemies.

Mulyani expected that the warmth and hospitality of Indonesian people could be an inspiration for developed countries to work together and put forward the principles of multilateralism. (T/RS5/RS1)
