Jakarta , 5 Rabiul Akhir 1435/5 February 2014 (MINA) – The chairman of Indonesian Scholars Council (MUI), Amidhan said halal product certification is also needed and useful for non- Muslims because it guarantees the quality, security and health.
“Halal certification will surely protect everyone, including non-Muslims. While for Muslims, it becomes obligatory for them to choose halal products for consumption,” said Amidhan in Jakarta, Tuesday.
“Food and Drugs National Agency (BPOM) of the Health Ministry is responsible for the security of the product (non-toxic and no harm), while the Assesment Agency of Food, Drugs and Cosmetics (LPPOM) of MUI is responsible for the halal product certification,” Amidhan told Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA)’s reporter.
Concerning the halal medicinal products, he admits that he faces constrains because there is a culture in the community that the drug is used an emergency situation, so anything that can heal eventually consumed.

He called on the doctors whom they often do not care about halal drugs because it is considered in an emergency situation.”The drug must have a halal certification because it is the command of Allah and the Prophet PBUH,” Be thou take the medicine with a lawful object, should not the unclean, “he said as quoted in a hadith.
“We Do not need to hesitate because Allah sent down the disease, he also give the medicine. If now the drug has not been found yet, it does not mean we have to use illicit drugs,” he added. ”Through research and experiments, I’m sure it will soon be found hahal drugs, because it is God’s promise of delivering drugs with something clean and lawful “.
The chairman explained that halal certification just needs two weeks process. If there is no queue of applicants, it can take just a week, and now it can also be done online. (L/P012/P04/E01).
