Tunis, MINA – The Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) reported Tuesday that one of its ships, the Alma, was struck by a suspected drone while docked in Tunisian waters, marking the second such attack in as many days, Anadolu Agency reported.

The Alma, sailing under the British flag, sustained fire damage on its upper deck, though activists confirmed the blaze was quickly extinguished. “We sounded the alarm. We yelled. We had the hoses ready, and it was out within two minutes,” one activist said during a livestream, stressing that no major structural damage occurred and all passengers were safe.

Activist Leila Hegazy, who witnessed the strike during a shift change, described the attack as the second drone incident in consecutive nights.

“This is not a coincidence. This is a threat to the mission and a clear intimidation tactic to scare people from boarding their vessels tomorrow,” she said, vowing, “We will not be deterred.”

The flotilla had earlier reported a suspected drone strike on its main ship, the Family Boat, off Tunisia’s coast. The GSF said both incidents were “orchestrated attempts to distract and derail” the mission, which continues undeterred.

The Global Sumud Flotilla, named after the Arabic word for “steadfastness,” consists of more than 50 ships carrying doctors, journalists, and activists from across Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. About 150 participants are involved in the initiative, which set sail from Barcelona in late August, joined by another group from Genoa, Italy. The convoy is expected to depart Tunisia for Gaza on Wednesday.

The initiative seeks to challenge Israel’s blockade and deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza, where famine is spreading amid Israel’s nearly two-year-long military campaign. According to the UN-backed Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), famine has already gripped northern Gaza and is threatening other areas. []
