GAZA TO IMPROVE AGRICULTURAL AND FISHERIES SECTORS
Gaza, 30 Jumadil Akhir 1435/30 April 2014 (MINA) – The Palestinian Ministry of Agriculture in Gaza investing USD 49 million to the agricultural sector and Qatar donated USD 9 million to its fishery sectors in order to meet the food needs of the Palestinian people in Gaza.
Minister of Agriculture in Gaza, Ali Tarshawi in a press conference held in Gaza City, Monday (28/4), says policies will be taken in order to succeed the program. “Cooperation with institutions in agriculture is important to conduct continuous training, “said Tarshawi.
He explained that a total of 40 million U.S. dollars will be used for the development of agriculture, especially in planting vegetables.
“We thank to the Government of Qatar over a contribution of USD 9 million for the fisheries sector,” said Ali.
The Ministry of agriculture also supports fishermen by visiting their homes and provide financial support so that the fishermen would continue their profession to fulfill local needs.
Agriculture and fisheries are the two major sectors owned by the Palestinians, particularly in Gaza. Since the Israel imposed siege to the coastal territory, most of Gazans meet the needs of their life as a farmer and fishermen.
Since 2006, Gaza people has been surviving in the world largest prison due to the Israeli long-term blockade.(L/P03/P04)
