Al-Quds, 25 Jumadil Awal 1437/3 March 2016 (MINA) – The regional and international situations are not appropriate for a conference to be held to revive the Middle East peace process, Quds Press reported a senior Palestinian official as saying yesterday.

Member of the Fatah Revolutionary Council and former Palestinian Authority (PA) Ambassador to Cairo, Nabil Amro, said: “Palestinians hope that by holding such a peace conference hosted in France, Europe will affect the American stance, but this will not happen because the regional, international and even the American situation is not appropriate for this.”

He likened the call to hold such a conference to the proposal made during the Annapolis Peace Conference which called for an international discussion hosted by Moscow. “That did not happen,” he said, hinting this would never happen.

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas revealed that his authorities had started contacting senior Arab and international officials and governments in order to help hold an international peace conference.

“I hope that this conference results in a mechanism for a political solution similar to what happened between Iran and the 5+1 powers,” Abbas said. (T/P002/R07)
