Ramallah, MINA – Israeli forces arrested 470 people from the Palestinian territories in August, including 50 children and 11 women, according to three Palestinian prisoner advocacy groups.

Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS), and the prisoner rights group Addameer reported 162 detained Palestinians were from occupied Al-Quds (East Jerusalem), 82 from Ramallah district, 50 from Hebron area, 44 from Jenin district, 38 from area Nablus, 30 from the Nablus area, 30 from the Bethlehem Region, 24 from the Qalqilya district and the rest from Tulkarm, Toubas, Salfit and Jericho districts. In addition, seven came from the Gaza Strip.

More than 500 Palestinians are detained in administrative detention without charge or trial.

The Israeli occupation of Palestinian territory (the West Bank including East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip) is in its fifth decade and the undercurrent of violence and inherent abuses of fundamental human rights and disregard for international law inherent in any long-standing military occupation is presented by both sides. Both Israeli and Palestinian civilians continue to bear the brunt of the violence in the region.(T/Sj/P2)
