BRAZIL: HOLY QUR’AN READERS HONORED DURING RAMADAN

Bracilia, 4 Shawal 1436/20 July 2015 (MINA) – The Islamic Charitable Society in Sao Paulo held a ceremony for honoring Holy Qur’an readers, who were dispatched by Egyptian Ministry of Endowments to Brazil to revive the holy month of Ramadan.

The ceremony was held in Brazil Mosque, the oldest mosque in Latin America under the supervision of the Islamic Charitable Society, where 20 senators from the state of São Paulo, led by head of the Supreme Council of Imams and Islamic Affairs in Brazil Sheikh Khaled Taqi el-Din, were also honored, IINA quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA).

Sheikh Taqi el-Din was honored for his efforts during the holy month of Ramadan, particularly in paying visits to the mosques and following up the affairs of Muslim community in the state of São Paulo and other Brazilian states.

In his speech at the ceremony, Sheikh Taqi el-Din praised the efforts of Brazil Mosque in highlighting the civilized image of Islamic teachings. He also thanked President of the Islamic Charitable Society Nasser Faris for caring for the people of Qur’an and honoring them, saying that this was the right direction the Muslim community should pursue to achieve its goals in better future for Islamic Dawa in Brazil.

For his part, Dr Abdul Hameed Mutawalli, imam and preacher of Brazil Mosque, expressed his appreciation to all participants for their contribution to the Dawa to Allah during the holy month of Ramadan. He also appreciated the role of imams in enlightening the community on the issues relating to the Islamic moderation concept.

Further, Dr Mutawalli thanked Al-Azhar and Egypt’s Ministry of Religious Endowments, valuing their leading role in the dissemination of true knowledge of Islamic religion tenets. He wished them more success wherever they journeyed.

The Islamic Charitable Society has organized a big celebration during the month of Ramadan in honor of Dr Helmi Nasr, professor of Arts and Arabic culture in the Federal University of São Paulo, Brazil’s largest university. The event was attended by Muslim clerics, scholars and representatives of diplomatic missions, and Arab and Islamic institutions and centers, as well as a large gathering of the Muslim community.(T/P004/NMT)
