Tel Aviv, MINA – Israel’s Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir, has once again called for a full-scale military assault on Gaza, warning Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that continued restraint could endanger his government.

“I urge the Prime Minister to order the [Occupation] Forces to resume full-scale combat operations in the sector,” Ben-Gvir said in a statement on Sunday, as reported by Al Mayadeen.

His remarks came after Israeli military officials claimed that militants in Rafah had fired sniper rounds and rocket-propelled grenades at Israeli positions, allegations strongly denied by Hamas and the Al-Qassam Brigades.

Ben-Gvir’s latest comments are consistent with his long history of provocative rhetoric against Palestinians. A former follower of the outlawed Kahanist movement, he has been convicted of inciting racism and supporting a terrorist organization.

As a politician, he has repeatedly advocated for the reoccupation of Gaza, promoted the “voluntary emigration” of Palestinians, and pushed for harsher treatment of detainees.

Ben-Gvir has also been accused of abusing his authority to inflame tensions. During a prison visit, he allegedly mocked Palestinian political prisoner Marwan Barghouti by showing him a photo of an electric chair. Human rights groups condemned the act as psychological harassment and further proof of the systemic dehumanization of Palestinians under Israeli control.

He has repeatedly pressured Netanyahu toward more extremist policies. In early October, Ben-Gvir threatened to bring down the government if Hamas was not dismantled following the implementation of a ceasefire.

Such threats have become a key tool of coercion within Netanyahu’s fragile coalition, where far-right figures like Ben-Gvir and Smotrich openly dictate policy through political blackmail.

Rather than resisting their pressure, Netanyahu has repeatedly conceded to escalation, a strategy widely viewed as an attempt to shore up his political survival and divert attention from his ongoing corruption trial.

Behind the rhetoric of “security,” this alliance of convenience has prolonged Gaza’s devastation, revealing that Netanyahu’s ongoing aggression is less about national defense and more about preserving his grip on power amid mounting legal and political peril.

In Gaza, Palestinians continue to endure dire conditions. The enclave remains under blockade, its infrastructure in ruins, and essential supplies scarce. Hospitals are operating at minimal capacity, while thousands remain displaced amid growing warnings of widespread famine.[]
