BDS Condemns Plan of a Leader of Nahdatul Ulama to Visit Israel

Jerusalem, MINA — The Palestinian Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions Movement (BDS) has strongly condemned the intention of a largest Indonesian Islamic oganization to visit the occupied Palestinian territories at the invitation of the Israeli authorities next week, MEMO reported on Monday.

The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation Makan reported that a delegation from the Nahdatul Ulama will visit the occupied city of Jerusalem next week to promote dialogue between Islamic, Jewish, and Christian religions.

In a statement received by Quds Press, BDS in Palestine said that such visits are “shameful and unacceptable”.

Such visits “give the occupation legitimacy and cover to increase the pace of attacks on Palestinians, further control them, and even deprive them of their most basic rights,” the statement pointed out.

BDS urged official authorities and Nahdatul Ulama to clarify their position on the visit, warning at the same time that “our Palestinian people will not passively stand in front of this overt normalisation and will not allow these visits to pass”.

The campaign praised Indonesia’s outstanding role in supporting the Palestinian cause from its position as the largest Islamic country in the world.

The campaign called on the Indonesian people and government to continue boycotting Israel and exert more effort to isolate the occupation, expose its crimes to the world and exert pressure on it to stop its aggression and unjust siege on our people.

Local and international boycott campaigns are one of the most important forms of popular resistance which have become a source of concern for the occupation.

Israeli authorities have prevented the perpetrators of these campaigns from reaching the Palestinian territories, taking severe measures against them. (T/RS5/RS1)
