Turkey Supports Indonesia to be UNSC Member

Ankara, 12 Shawal 1438/7 July 2017 (MINA) – Turkey has officially supported Indonesia to become a member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the period 2019-2020, Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi said in Ankara on Thursday.

“Turkey has supported us to become a member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC)  for 2019-2020,” said Retno. Antaranews reported.

Thus, she said, Indonesia  has managed to collect a number of support from various countries, making Indonesia more optimistic to get a place in the UNSC.

“The competitor is only one that is Maldives, the chances make us optimistic, Insha Allah we do work hard,” she said.

“I am optimistic considering the number but I cannot say in detail one by one,” she said.

“We hope it will bring good results and we support this in every bilateral meeting not only at the foreign ministerial level but at the presidential  and technical minister levesl. We work all out,” she said.

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is one of the six principal organs of the United Nations. Its powers include the establishment of peacekeeping operations, the establishment of international sanctions, and the authorization of military action through Security Council resolutions; it is the only UN body with the authority to issue binding resolutions to member states.
