RUSSIAN AIRSTRIKES KILL 14 IN SYRIA’S ALEPPO PROVINCE

Aleppo, Syria,  26 Safar 1437/8 December (MINA) –  Fourteen people were killed and another 20 injured Monday by airstrikes carried out by Russian warplanes on opposition-held parts of Syria’s Aleppo province.

According to local civil defense sources, Russian warplanes also struck Aleppo’s opposition-held Sukkari, Al-Hulk and Firdevs districts.

The same sources said that airstrikes had killed 14 people and injured another 20, mostly children, while also damaging a number of residential areas and a school, Anadolu Agency reports as quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA).

Mustafa Abu Shafik, a member of a local coordination committee, told Anadolu Agency that Russian warplanes had carried out more than 70 airstrikes in southern Aleppo.

Syria’s local coordination committees, which consist of local activists opposed to the Assad regime, frequently publish news via social-media websites.

Shafik added that forces loyal the regime of President Bashar al-Assad — with Russian air support — had retaken Aleppo’s southern village of Hilsa.

Shafik went on to say that opposition forces had responded by attacking a building used as a military headquarters by regime forces.

At least 250,000 people have been killed since the Syria conflict began in 2011, according to UN figures. (T/P010/R04)
