New York, MINA – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the United Nations General Assembly on Friday, strongly denying accusations of genocide and starvation in Gaza. His speech came as numerous delegates walked out in protest, leaving the hall largely empty, Anadolu Agency reported.

Netanyahu dismissed reports of humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, asserting, “Israel is deliberately feeding the people of Gaza,” and further claimed that the Israeli military takes unprecedented measures to avoid civilian casualties.

Despite the ongoing aggression, which has resulted in the deaths of over 65,500 Palestinians, most of them women and children since October 2023, Netanyahu insisted that Gaza must remain “demilitarized” under Israeli security control. He added that a civilian authority could be established in the future and warned of continued attacks unless Israeli hostages are released.

Framing Israel’s actions as part of a broader fight against global terrorism, Netanyahu stated, “Our enemies are your enemies,” referencing Iran and its alleged attempts to assassinate the US president.

In response to recent international recognition of Palestinian statehood, Netanyahu criticized countries for doing “something horribly wrong,” and accused both Hamas and the Palestinian Authority of rejecting Israel’s right to exist.

Turning to regional issues, he mentioned “serious negotiations” with Syria’s new government and reiterated Israel’s continued military presence in southern Lebanon, despite a truce agreement requiring full withdrawal by January 2025. Netanyahu justified this presence as necessary to monitor Hezbollah and prevent future attacks. []
