Indonesia Must Become a Global Halal Producer

Bandung, MINA – Indonesia as the Most populous Muslim country should be a global halal producer, but in reality almost all sectors in halal lifestyles are controlled by non-Muslim countries

Sapta Nirwandar, the Chairman of Indonesia Halal Lifestyle Center, said this in his presentation at the Halal Lifestyle National Seminar with the theme “Halal Industry; Concept of Halal Business, Opportunities and Challenges “.

He said halal is the right of all people.

“Halal is a right not only for Muslims but all human beings according to Surah Al-Baqarah verse 168,” Sapta said in front of hundreds of participants of the seminar held by the ITB Muslim Post-Graduates Students Association in collaboration with MINA as media partner.

Sapta said Muslim Halal Lifestyle in global markets include food, finance, clothing, tourism, media, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, education, arts and culture.

He, however, regretted that, despite continuing to increase these sectors, all of them are still under control by non-Muslim countries.

He thinks there are several opportunities that need to be utilized to support the global market, but “there are still many business segments that have no business actor whereas this country is the world’s largest Muslim country.

“The sad thing is that Indonesia only controls 5.3% of the financial maket share of the syariah financial market in this country,”

Therefore he urged the scholars should participate actively in educating people about halal products in indoensia.

Although according to him there are some challenges faced, including a long administrative process because the government wants to ensure halal, because some cases make Indonesia considered to have been breached by fake halal producers.

In addition, the concept of halal in the people of Indonesia is still considered something ordinary, because there is a perception that all produced in Indonesia is halal.

“In reality there are still producers who produce halal products without going through the right path, making it difficult to become a global product,” he added. (L/R04/RS5)
