Ramallah, 28 Sha’ban 1438/25 May 2017 (MINA) – The Israel Prisons Service (IPS) moved on Wednesday 60 hunger striking Palestinian detainees from Ohlekdar and Hadarim prisons to hospitals after a significant deterioration in their health, according to the media committee of the strike.

Lawyers from the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) who visited some of the hunger strikers in Ohlekdar prison said many of the strikers were moved to hospitals due to their critical heath condition after 38 days of fast.

He added that some of the hunger strikers were not able change their clothes, including underwear, since May 16, which further worsens their health condition.

Meanwhile, Hanan al-Khatib, an attorney with the Detainees Affairs Commission, said the Israeli authorities have imposed a blackout regarding the health condition of strikers in Hadarim prison.

On April 17, some 1,600 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails started a hunger strike to demand better access to medical care, increased visit duration from 45 to 90 minutes, removal of glass barriers during family visits and improved detention conditions. (T/RS5/RS1
