Kigali, 4 Safar 1437/16 November 2015 (MINA) – Some 348 Rwandans have reverted to Islam during a medical and da’wah convoy campaign carried out by the World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY) in Gachura area and its suburbs in the Republic of Rwanda, over a whole month.

The convoy consisted of four medical doctors and nine preachers, who delivered lectures on introduction of Islam and invited non-Muslims in the region to embrace the faith, resulting in hundreds of Rwandans to become Muslims.

The convoy also provided medical services that met the needs of Rwandan citizens in the area, where the physicians performed circumcision of Muslim children and the new converts, International Islamic News Agency (IINA) quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting.

They further distributed free medicines and conducted 561 surgeries, in addition to the provision of gifts to the new converts and faithful, including hijab (Islamic veil) for women and hats for men as well as manuals on the fundamental principles of Islam.

Muslims represent less than 5 percent of the total population in Rwanda, while the Catholic Christianity and Paganism make up 95 percent, and the country requires greater Islamic charity effort to help the poor Muslim minority. (T/Imt/R04)
