INDONESIA FACES THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE IN MAINTAINING UNITY

     Jakarta, 29 Rajab 1434/8 June 2013 (MINA) – The Vice-Minister of Forign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia Wardana said that the biggest challenge of Indonesian people is to maintain the unity of Indonesia.

He stated it in front of 70 students the  Arts and Culture Scholarship Program 2013 from 43 countries

   “From the beginning, our founding fathers realized that the greatest challenge faced our nation is the maintenance of national unity,” Wardana said in opening the scholarship program in Jakarta, Friday (7/6).

    “We realized that our survival as a nation depended on our ability to transcend our differences. Hence, over the centuries we developed a way of living in peace and harmony with one another,” said the man who has ever been an ambassador  in several great countries.

   Wardana continued this tradition and value  are also reflected well in Indonesia foreign policy.

     We celebrate it as a source of strength. In line with our national motto, Bhineka Tunggal Ika (Unity  in Diversity), we turned our ethnic, linguistic, cultural and religious diversity into a force for synergy.

     “Our diversity allows us to separate, but we make it as a source of strength. In accordance with our national motto, Bhineka Tunggal Ika (Unity  in Diversity). We emerged from the diversity of ethnicities, languages, cultures and religions, but we became a force , ” Wardana told.

     In addition, Wardana also reveals two other facts about Indonesia.

     Indonesia is a home of the population of more than 240 million, wiich makes us the fourth most populous nation in the world. That huge population is spread over an archipelago of more than 17,000 islands and consisting of 300 different ethnic groups, speaking more than 740 languages.

   Other facts, Indonesia is a vibrant democracy, Indonesia is the world’s third largest democracy country.  added Wardana who graduated from  University of Diponegoro, Semarang, Central Java.

   The Arts and Culture Scholarship Program has been going on for a decade since 2003. For this year, 70 participants from 43 countries participate in this program, . There are about 200 applicants from 43 countries, but 70 participants who accepted.

     All awardees will have plenty of time and opportunity to experience a significant part of the socio cultural wealth of Indonesia. (L/P09/P04).
