Washington, MINA – A group of US lawmakers, led by Representatives Pramila Jayapal and Rashida Tlaib, has introduced legislation aimed at blocking major arms sales to Israel, Middle East Monitor reported.
The bill highlights concerns over the ongoing violence in Gaza and the rising civilian casualties.
The proposed measures would prevent the sale of billions of dollars worth of weaponry, including 2,000-pound bombs, guidance systems, and armored bulldozers used to demolish Palestinian homes.
Jayapal and Tlaib, alongside other Democratic representatives, argue that continuing to provide offensive weapons to Israel amidst violations of international and US laws is unacceptable.

“We must return to a negotiated ceasefire that allows for humanitarian aid to enter Gaza,” Jayapal stated, emphasizing the need for lasting peace and security in the region.
The proposed legislation builds on previous efforts to halt military sales, but faces strong opposition from Republican lawmakers who support Israel’s military actions. Despite the significant support for the bill from the Democratic side, it is unlikely to pass in the Republican-majority Congress. []
