Three Soldiers Killed as Militants Attack Army in Pampore

Srinagar, 18 Rabiul Awwal 1438/18 December 2016 (MINA) – Three soldiers were killed and two others injured in a militant attack on an army convoy at a crowded place at Pampore on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway on Saturday.

“Three soldiers have been martyred in a terrorist attack on a convoy at Pampore. Search operations are underway,” kashmirglory.com quoted an army official as saying.

A police official said two soldiers were also injured in the attack that took place at the place crowded with civilians at Kadlabal in Pampore town of Pulwama district this afternoon.

He said the forces exercised restraint and did not retaliated in order to avoid civilian casualties.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the militants might have used motorcycles to carry out the deadly attack, the official said, adding, search operations were going on in the surrounding areas to track down the assailants.

The army convoy was on its way from Jammu to Srinagar when the attack took place.

Army convoys have been attacked several times along this stretch of the highway that connects Srinagar and Jammu and is used to carry supplies to the Srinagar-based 15 Corps that acts as nerve centre to battle militancy in the valley.

The attack comes just days after two militants were killed on in separate encounters with security forces in Anantnag and Baramulla districts.

Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti has condemned the killing of three army personnel in a militant attack in Pampore town.

The Chief Minister said violence has never helped in the resolution of issues but only compounded the human miseries.

She has also expressed her sympathies with the families of slain soldiers. (T/R07/R01)
