London,06 Jumadil Awwal 1438/03 February 2017 (MINA) – Theresa May will next week confront Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over the building of thousands more settlements in the West Bank.

She will warn him that the move “undermines trust” in the Middle East peace process, politicshome.com reported.

The Prime Minister will speak out when she holds her first face-to-face talks with Mr Netanyahu in Downing Street next Monday.

Earlier this week, the Israeli government approved the building of 3,000 more units in the disputed territory.

Foreign Office minister Tobias Ellwood last night said the Government “condemns” the move.

A spokeswoman for Mrs May said the Prime Minister would also raise the issue with her Israeli counterpart during their talks in Number 10.

She said: “I would expect the Prime Minister to set out the Government’s position that we think that the continued increase in settlement activity undermines trust.

“Our focus is on how do we make a two-state solution with an Israel that is safe from terrorism and a Palestinian state that is viable and sovereign work.”

Britain voted in favour of a UN security council resolution last December which condemned the West Bank settlements as illegal. (T/RS05/RS01)
