President Nominates Warjiyo as Central Bank Governor

BI Deputy Governor Perry Warjiyo.

Jakarta, MINA – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has proposed Perry Warjiyo as the sole candidate of Bank Indonesia (BI/the central bank) governor for 2018-2023 period, a legislator said.

“As an insider, Warjiyo will surely continue BI`s policies that are good for managing the monetary sector,” said a member of Commission XI in charge of Finance and Banking, Muhammad Nur Purnamasidi when contacted by ANTARA National News Agency in Jakarta on Saturday.

However, Purnamasidi still doubts Warjiyo`s ability to make a breakthrough for strengthening the Central Bank`s policy in the future.

“I`m not too sure, whether Warjiyo can make more dynamic policies for the future,” said Purnamasidi, a member of the Golkar Party Faction. The Golkar Party is the majority in the parliament and is also supporter of the government of Jokowi.
