Ramallah, 21 Dzulqa’dah 1435/16 September 2014 (MINA) –Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah said Sunday that the challenges faced by Gaza would be the main focus of an upcoming conference in New York.

Hamdallah told a local development committee preparing for a Sept. 22 donor conference in New York that supporting Gaza will be the focus of the PA’s report at the conference.

The Palestinian Authority’s main priority is supporting the Gaza Strip and its challenges, he added. Maan News Agency quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting.

The PM called on donating countries to provide more humanitarian aid to Gaza, to support the national unity government, and intervene to allow construction material to enter the Strip.

Deputy Prime Minister Muhammad Mustafa told Ma’an on Sept. 8 that the conference would focus on evaluating international financial support to the PA.

Hamas and the Fatah-dominated PLO, which signed a unity agreement in April, have been at odds in the weeks following Israel’s offensive on Gaza over governance of the Strip.

President Mahmoud Abbas has accused Hamas of running a “shadow government” in Gaza.

Hamas denies the claims, accusing the PA government of not doing enough for Gaza, as it has refused to pay former Hamas workers’ salaries. (T/P002/P3)
