Palestine Leads G-77 Meeting to Discuss International Trade
New York, MINA – Riyad Mansour, Palestinian Permanent Representative for the United Nations, led a series of important meetings at the United Nations as Chair of G-77 plus China in New York, United States last week.
According to Ma’an News Agency, Saturday, during the meeting, Mansour emphasized importance of international trade as a catalyst for sustainable development goals (SDGs).
He also called on several countries to replace coercive and unilateral economic measures that greatly affect international trade.
Mansoor shows flows of illegal cash and tax evasion, which has a significant impact on developing countries, especially African countries whose volume is estimated at $200 billion.
Palestine took presidency of G-77 plus China with an extraordinary vote in October 2018. A total of 146 countries voted, three opposed (the United States, Israel and Australia) and 15 abstentions. This is seen as a major advance for Palestinians in an effort to attract international recognition.
The vote also enhances Palestinian legal status at the United Nations to enable it to lead the largest bloc and represent it at all UN forums and events. (T/Sj/R04)
