Jeddah, MINA – The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) condemned the Israeli municipality’s declaration that it imposed a tax on churches and their institutions and real estates in the occupied city of Jerusalem.

It also reiterated its rejection of such measures as part of the Municipality’s ongoing attempts to alter the historical status of Christian and Islamic holy places, UNA reported.

The OIC general secretariat expressed its solidarity with the Christian churches in Jerusalem. It cautioned against the danger of these unprecedented Israeli actions, which constitute a flagrant violation of international law and international conventions.

The Organization also called on the international community to exert pressure on Israel, the occupying power, to compel it to shoulder its responsibilities under international law and the Geneva Conventions, and to immediately reverse these illegal actions and ongoing violations against Jerusalem and its people and holy sites.(R/R04/RS5)
