OCA Praises Indonesian Cyclists for Games Success
Jakarta, MINA – The Indonesian Cycling Federation (ICF) has received praise from the president of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), Shaikh Ahmed Al-Fahad Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah, for Indonesian cyclists’ achievements at the 2018 Asian Games 2018 in Jakarta and Palembang.
“Today I was invited by Shaikh Ahmed to receive appreciation for the cycling accomplishments of Indonesia in the 2018 Asian Games, with two gold, a silver and two bronze medals gained so far, and possibly more [to come],” said ICF president Raja Sapta at Hotel Pullman, Jakarta, on Saturday.
According to asiangames2018.id, Raja said he had not been aware of the intention of the OCA to express its appreciation, but what had been achieved served as evidence that bicycle racing in Indonesia was making a comeback after 56 years.
Shaikh Ahmed noted that, after 56 years of minimal achievements in cycling, Indonesia had proven its ability for progress.
“I met with Shaikh Ahmed along with the president of the Asian Cycling Confederation, Osama Al Shafar. Shaikh Ahmed expressed his special appreciation for Indonesia because, after 56 years, Indonesia is again active in bicycle racing,” he revealed.
He said the achievements by Indonesian racers were the results of hard work by all relevant parties in a super team. In his view, the racers’ success is by design rather than by accident, thanks to the ICF’s various programs to promote athletes.
Raja Sapta added that six programs had been undertaken under his leadership of the ICF, covering the affairs of athletes, coaches, commissions, events, venues and organizational administration.(L/R04/RS5)
