MER-C Sends 32 Volunteers to Continue Construction Indonesian Hospital in Gaza

Tangerang, MINA – Emergency Medical Rescue-Committee (MER-C) departed 32 volunteers to construct the second phase of the Indonesia Hospital (RS Indonesia) in Gaza, Palestine.

“The departure of volunteers is divided into two waves, the first wave consists of six volunteers, while the second wave is 26 volunteers,” said the Chairman of the Phase 2 Development Team of the Indonesian Hospital, Ir. Faried Thalib, at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang, Banten, Saturday.

Faried, who is also one of the MER-C Presidiums, explained that a total of 32 volunteers will depart to Cairo, Egypt, a country directly adjacent to the Gaza Strip.

In this team of voluntteers are the MER-C Presidium Faried Thalib and Arief Rachman, Chair of the MER-C Construction Division, Idrus Muhamad Alatas, architect of the design of the Indonesian Hospital building Rizal Syarifuddin and Edy Wahyudi Darta, a volunteer who once headed the first stage of the construction of the Indonesian Hospital, this time it was trusted to become the Site Development Manager for the second stage of the Indonesian Hospital.

The first team will depart at 08:00 p.m. from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport using Saudi airlines transit to Jeddah, Saudi and it is estimated that the trip will take approximately 12 hours, then to Cairo, Egypt.

“The first wave of volunteer departures will depart for Cairo Egypt on Friday night, at 08:00 p.m. Meanwhile, the second wave of 26 volunteers will follow flying to Cairo on Saturday at 11.00 a.m. from the same airport, “he said.

MER-C Presidium, Ir. Faried continued, this departure was made possible after obtaining Egyptian and Gaza entry permits received by MER-C from local authorities.

“We hope that with the existing permits, the Team can immediately enter the Gaza Strip. We continue to coordinate with the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indonesian Embassy in Cairo, “he said.

“Asking for prayers from all the people of Indonesia so that this trip will be given fluency, ease and safety,” he added.

From the total 32 volunteers for the construction of Indonesian Hospital in Gaza, 28 volunteers came from the Al-Fatah Islamic Boarding School network, while four volunteers from MER-C. The plan is that they will stay there for 1.5 years to complete the construction of additional floor of the Indonesian Hospital in Gaza.

Indonesian Hospital is a work of Indonesian that is fully built from the donations of the Indonesian people. It Located in Bayt Lahiya, about 2.5 km from the Israeli border, Indonesian Hospital is the main reference center for people in the northern Gaza Strip.

It Stand on waqf land covering an area of ​​1.6 hectares, the Indonesian Hospital building consists of 2 floors and 1 basement floor with a capacity of 100 beds, 4 operating rooms, 10 bed ICU, Radiology Room, Laboratory, Blood Bank, IGD equipped with the best medical equipment now, it is overwhelmed to accommodate patients who come for treatment. The capacity of 100 beds is insufficient to provide care to patients in need.

For this reason, the development of the Indonesian Hospital will be in the form of the construction of two additional floors to increase the capacity of the treatment room and open new medical departments and services as well as the procurement of medical equipment. (T/Sj/P2)
