Malaysia Interests in Developing Halal Tourism in Indonesia’s North Maluku
Jakarta, 20 Rajab 1438/18 April 2017 (MINA) – Chairman of the International Section Malay Trade Board of Putrajaya, Datuk Jamal Asyahidan said he was interested in developing halal tourism in the province of North Maluku.
On the sidelines of the First International Business Forum of North Maluku in Ternate, Monday, he said North Maluku has great potential for the development of halal tourism. Tempo reported.
“North Maluku natural potential is quite large, because the province is still untapped and a lot of potential that can be developed that is suitable to the local conditions where the population is predominantly Muslim,” Jamal said.
He claimed to have a direct view of tourism potential in North Maluku and promised to bring more group of Malaysian businessmen to see it in October this year.
In the first implementation of the international business forum, he brought five entrepreneurs engaged in several businesses in accordance with the investment potential in North Maluku.
Jamal pays special attention to halal tourism sector in several countries in Southeast Asia, including Indonesia. He stated his country has built a Global Halal Travel consortium, in which businessmen from Indonesia Riyanto Sofyan (chairman of Sofyan Hotels Tbk) lines up as commissioner.
“We want to develop the market, especially in Southeast Asia. We invite Thailand, Philippines, Brunei and Singapore to develop the Global Halal Travel,” said Jamal.
He considered North Maaluku can be halal tourism destinations in Indonesia. It lies close to the Philippines, Malaysia and Brunei. So, it makes easier for travelers heading to the region. (T/P2/RS5)
