Kuala Lumpur, MINA – Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad strongly criticized the change in the decision of the United States which now approves Israeli settlements in occupied Palestinian territories.

Mahathir said that the American step was a form of certainty (absurdity) which the same as legalizing Israel’s annexation of Palestinian land.

“It is the same as not safe for us when there is a country that wants to enter our country and develop residential areas that considered illegal. We cannot do anything, “Mahathir said in a written statement on Wednesday.

Mahathir worried that the decision of US President Donald Trump would further confirm the dominance of Israeli forces, who are currently carrying out mass killings in Gaza, including children.

“You announce that their (Israeli) illegal settlements are not illegal when they carry out unjust attacks on Gazans. Isn’t that encouraging them to continue to kill children, civilians, and they will not get punishment, “said Mahathir.

On the contrary, said Mahathir, Israel instead got a prize by establishing illegal settlements on the land of the people they killed.

Israel occupied Jerusalem and the West Bank after the 1967 Six-Day War and began building settlements in the West Bank in the following year. Palestinians want the West Bank and Gaza Strip as regions of the future Palestinian state.

The new US policy will also further reduce the creation of peace that Trump has long promised will get traction after it is announced later.

International law views the West Bank and East Jerusalem as occupied territories and considers all Israeli settlement building activities to be illegal. (T/Sj/P2)
