Israel Approves Establishment of 3000 Housing Units in Occupied Jerusalem
Occupied Jerusalem, MINA – The Israeli municipality in occupied Jerusalem on Wednesday approved the construction of 3000 new settlement units in Gilo settlement in southern Jerusalem.
According to Israeli media sources, the new units are scheduled to be built in 280 Palestinian-owned dunums, PIC reported.
Today is a historical day in Jerusalem as we approved thousands of settlement units in Gilo, Jerusalem deputy mayor said.
Also on Wednesday, an Israeli firm started placing a number of trailers as part of the 50 caravans to be erected at a new settlement for evacuees of Amona, just over a year after the illegal outpost was razed.
Israeli government is working on increasing settlement expansion so that it can make more of the occupied land legalized, and impose it as a non-negotiable fait accompli.
Under international law, Israel’s establishment of settlements in Palestinian territory occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem, had no legal validity, constituting a major obstacle to the vision of two States living side-by-side in peace and security, within internationally recognized borders.(R/R04/RS5)
