Indonesian President Officially Revokes Remission of Journalist Killer

Surabaya, MINA – Indonesian President Joko Widodo officially revoked the remission of I Nyoman Susrama, the mastermind behind the murder of Jawa Pos Radar Bali journalist, AA Gde Bagus Narendra Prabangsa.

This was confirmed on the sidelines of National 2019 Press Day commemoration at Surabaya Grand City Convention Center on Saturday, Feb 9. CNN Indonesia reported.

“I have already signed it,” Jokowi said while shaking hands with a number of media leaders and press figures in the event.

At the same time, the Alliance of Independent Journalists (AJI) in East Java held an action demanding the revocation of Susrama’s remission, in Surabaya.

They urged President Jokowi to immediately revoke remission of I Nyoman Susrama, convicted murderer of journalist Radar Bali (Jawa Pos Group) AA Gde Bagus Narendra Prabangsa from a lifetime to become a 20-year temporary prison.

Public pressure also emerged through the signature of an online petition at change.org which until Friday February 8, 2019, had reached 48 thousand support.

The petition along with the objection letter on Friday, February 8 was submitted to the government through the Ministry of Law and Human Rights.

“The amount of public participation in this issue shows that there is an injustice. Of course we demand President Joko Widodo’s political stance to uphold justice,” said Chairman of AJI Surabaya, Miftah Faridl. (R/Ais/P2)
