Indonesia PT INKA Establishes Cooperation with Switzerland Stadler Rail Group

Jakarta, MINA – The government considered the national train industry to be more competitive as it increases cooperation with global scale companies because they get technology transfer. This was realized through a collaborative between PT INKA (Persero) and Stadler Rail Group from Switzerland.

“If we look, Stadler is one of the train players in Europe. It also the number 4 producer in the world. This is a good momentum for PT INKA to be able to take advantage of each other,” said Indonesia Minister of Industry, Airlangga Hartarto, in a written statement few days ago.

Hartato explained that the synergy between the two parties would be realized through the construction of the largest and integrated train factory in Indonesia owned by PT INKA in Banyuwangi Regency, East Java.

The amount of investment will be disbursed reaches Rp 30 trillion, with the initial stage being disbursed worth Rp 500 billion.

In the agreement, PT INKA prepared 84 hectares of land and buildings. However for the first stage, it was used as large as 12 hectares. Meanwhile, Stadler provides technology and machinery. It is estimated, the total employment of up to 2,000 people.

“From this collaboration, it is expected to open up more extensive export market access for both, both in ASEAN and regionally, where each already has a network,” he said.

PT INKA production in Banyuwangi could focus on developing markets such as Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka and the Philippines, while Stadler to meet markets such as Singapore and Australia.

Indonesia is one of the largest train manufacturing industry players in Southeast Asia. Based on the study of an independent German company, PT INKA is in position 22 in the ranks of the railroad industry in the world.

“In addition, from the WEF 2019, we hope that the world economy has more certainty, so that growth can be even higher. Because, for Indonesia, with this higher growth, it will increase employment and investment,” he said. (T/Ais/P2)
