Jakarta, MINA – Indonesia is experiencing an unusual weather pattern in 2025, as the dry season, normally marked by low rainfall, has turned out to be wetter than expected. Starting in April, many regions across the country have continued to see significant rainfall despite entering what should be the dry season.

This weather anomaly, known as a wet dry season, is caused by a mix of global and local climate factors, including the influence of La Niña, irregular monsoon winds, and unstable atmospheric pressure systems. As a result, this year’s dry season does not follow the usual pattern of minimal rain and dry conditions.

The impact is being felt across key sectors, especially agriculture. Farmers are struggling to adjust planting and harvesting schedules due to unpredictable rain. Managing water resources has also become more difficult, as authorities must both conserve water and prepare for flash floods in certain areas.

Government agencies and local authorities are now rethinking infrastructure planning. Irrigation systems, drainage networks, and disaster response strategies need to be updated to handle this new climate reality.

Experts say the wet dry season is a reminder of how climate change is affecting weather patterns. There’s a growing need for better weather forecasting tools and long-term planning to help communities adapt to increasingly unpredictable conditions.

The Indonesian government is urging the public, particularly farmers and those in climate-sensitive sectors, to closely follow weather updates from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG). Staying informed can help reduce the risks linked to this abnormal weather.

While the wet dry season presents challenges, it also offers a chance to build stronger systems and raise awareness about climate resilience across the country.[]
