Indonesia Condemns Brussels Blasts

The Belgian federal prosecutor’s office confirmed the three men in a picture published in the Belgian news media are suspects in the airport bombings.

Jakarta, 13 Jumadil Akhir 1437/23 March 2016 (MINA) – Indonesia on Tuesday condemned the recent bombings in Brussels that have killed at least 13 people and injured 35 others.

“The Indonesian government and people convey its deepest condolences to the people and government of Belgium, especially to the victims and their families,” said a statement from the Foreign Affairs Ministry.

The statement also said Indonesia strongly condemns terrorism and violent activities for any reason, and called on the international community to increase partnership in tackling radicalism and terrorism.

No Indonesians were reported killed in the twin blasts that took place on Tuesday morning at Brussels Zaventem airport, followed by another deadly explosion at Maelbeek metro station less than an hour later, Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) reported, quoting shanghaidaily.com.

The Indonesian embassy in the Belgian capital has issued an advisory to all citizens to remain vigilant as the threat level in Brussels has been raised from three to maximum four.

Indonesia has experienced terrorist attacks in the past 15 years, including the 2002 Bali bombings which killed at least 200 people.

In January, Indonesian capital Jakarta witnessed gun and bomb attacks which killed four militants and four civilians. Syria-based terrorist group Islamic State claimed responsibility for the harrowing incident. (T/R07/R01)
