Occupied Jerusalem, MINA -Paraguay and Honduras are reportedly ready “in principle” to move their embassies to Jerusalem if Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu makes an official visit to their country, Army Radio reported Sunday, citing a senior Israeli diplomatic official.

Last week, Guatemala announced that its embassy would move to Jerusalem on May 16, two days after the United States moves its embassy to the holy city. Guatemalan President Jimmy Morales announced the date of the move at the 2018 AIPAC conference, Jerusalem Online reported.

In December, about two weeks after US President Donald Trump recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and said that he has instructed the State Department to begin planning the embassy move, Morales stated that he would eventually move his country’s embassy to Jerusalem.

Both Guatemala and Honduras sided with the US when the UN General Assembly voted on a resolution denouncing Trump’s decision regarding Jerusalem’s status on December 21. Paraguay, along with 34 other countries, abstained from the vote.

Last month, US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley thanked Honduras for its support. “That was one that was not an easy decision for any country to have to vote on,” Haley said. “But the people of Honduras stood with us in being able to make that decision for ourselves and decide where we want our embassy, and to know that that’s our right.”(R/R04/P2)
